Survey interviewer Amber Kumar Gurung travels through the heart of Bhutan with a questionnaire, assessing the well-being of his compatriots. This tender portrait shows how it’s possible to be happy in times of adversity.
The Kingdom of Bhutan set happiness of its people as one of its goals and sent out agents to measure it directly through a questionnaire. The filmmakers chose a more nuanced and telling approach that examines not only the happiness of the subjects, but makes us wonder about the essence of happiness as such.
Inspired by the film theater maker Tijs Huys will explore with the audience what happiness means to them.
About Tijs Huys
Tijs Huys graduated from the Amsterdam Theatre School in 2008. After his studies in Amsterdam, he took courses at the Mime School Amsterdam and completed his studies with a master’s in music theater, T.I.M.E., at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He is the founder and a core member of the city theater company PS|theater in Leiden. Additionally, he works with Stichting Nieuwe Helden, the Frisian company Tryater, De Toneelmakerij, Bonte Hond, Zuidelijk Toneel, and De Milieubende.
