Set in Paris, this film by Nine Antico follows Sophie, who unexpectedly lands a job at a comic book publisher despite being unqualified for the position. Just as she begins to settle into a fragile sense of stability, her life is upended when she breaks up with her boyfriend, the father of her unborn child.
What begins with the promise of a romantic comedy (complete with narration and a playful reflection on love) gradually shifts into something less predictable. The story resists easy genre expectations as Sophie navigates work, relationships, and impending motherhood, with humor emerging from the recognisable awkwardness of her romantic missteps and the contradictions of her search for independence.
Told with a sharp, intimate sensibility drawn from Antico’s graphic novel background, the film traces a young woman’s attempt to hold onto autonomy while everything around her shifts.
