Daniel Shapiro on negotiating for peace

DUUR
120 minuten

Voor Nederlands scroll naar beneden.  What’s the best way to handle Brexit? Should we negotiate with terrorists? What is the easiest way to end a conflict with your boss, and how do you stop yourself from arguing over who’s doing the dishes every day? Do these conflicts seem to have nothing in common? According to Daniel Shapiro, every conflict can be solved in similar ways. Whether it is an international dispute between states or the never ending fights with your partner: the roots of these conflicts are actually the same.  Daniel Shapiro has 15 years of experience in researching the role of emotions in conflict situations and states that every conflict, no matter how big or small, can be solved if you follow his method. The big question is: can we reach world peace by negotiating? Daniel Shapiro, founder of the Harvard Negotiation Institute and renowned international negotiation scholar, will be in De Balie to talk on this subject. Based on Shapiro’s extensive experience at (amongst others) the World Economic Forum, the United Nations and the World Bank, Shapiro will show how sustainable conflict resolution is possible – even for the most emotionally charged conflicts. Also, experienced negotiators from Dutch politics and business will be invited to share their views. Alexander Rinnooy Kan, member of the Dutch Senate (D66) and Professor of Economics and Business Studies at the University of Amsterdam, will share his experience in negotiating in politics and business with us. Liesbeth van Tongeren, member of the Dutch Senate (GroenLinks) will join the conversation with Rinooy Kan. Robert Jan Steinmetz, negotiation expert at Frits Philips jr.& Partners, will lead the discussions while at the same time providing you with practical insights that can be applied to create your own local version of world peace. In other words: learning how to make peace was never this easy.

About Daniel Shapiro Shapiro is the founder and director of the Harvard Negotiation Program, associate professor in psychology at Harvard Medical School/McLean Hospital, and named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. He will be visiting the Netherlands for the launch of his book Duurzaam onderhandelen.

Language: English This evening is organized in cooperation with Maven Publishing, the publisher of Duurzaam onderhandelen by Daniel Shapiro.
