In this book, he writes about the decline of Western dominance, and the ignorance of the West about this fact. Mahbubani warns the West: it needs to adapt to this new reality, and it needs to do so quickly. Mahbubani investigates in a refreshing manner the myths of Western dominance with the critical perspective of an outsider. Paul Scheffer will lead the conversation with Kishore this evening. Kishore Mahbubani is a Singaporean academic and former diplomat. He is a Professor in the Practice of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore where he was formerly Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. From 1971 to 2004, he served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was Singapore's Permanent Representative to the United Nations. In that role, he served as President of the United Nations Security Council in January 2001 and May 2002. Paul Scheffer (1954) is publicist and professor European studies at Tilburg University and Amsterdam University. Op 14 april vertelt Mahbubani over zijn nieuwe boek: Is het Westen de weg kwijt?In dit boek schrijft hij over het einde van de Westerse dominantie, en dat het Westen dit maar niet onder ogen wil zien. Mahbubani waarschuwt het Westen: het zal zich aan moeten passen aan de nieuwe realiteit, en snel.

Kishore Mahbubani was rector van de Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy van de National University of Singapore. Van 1971 tot 2004 werkte bij het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken en als diplomaat voor Singapore, laatstelijk als ambassadeur bij de Verenigde Naties. In die hoedanigheid was hij voorzitter van de Veiligheidsraad in januari 2001 en mei 2002. Na zijn lezing gaat Kishore Mahbubani in gesprek met Paul Scheffer (1954). Scheffer is publicist en hoogleraar Europese studies aan de universiteit van Tilburg en de Universiteit van Amsterdam.
