Let op! Dit programma vindt plaats in het Concertgebouw. Europa wordt vaak gezien als een Christelijk continent, gevormd door geloof. Is het Europees project voornamelijk een project gebaseerd op Christelijke waarden? Of wordt het gekenmerkt door Verlichtingsidealen of pluralisme – een Europa waar verschillende stemmen naast elkaar kunnen bestaan? En hoe verhoudt deze oorsprong van Europa zich tot de hedendaagse Europese samenleving?
Samen met de schrijvers Kader Abdolah, Stefan Hertmans en Vonne van der Meer en het Nederlands Kamerkoor duiken we in de Europese geschiedenis op zoek naar de Christelijke, pan-religieuze of Verlichting oorsprong van Europa en onderzoeken we de rol van geloof in het Europa van vandaag.
Het Nederlands Kamerkoor geeft speciaal voor het Forum een reprise concert van hun bijzondere project 150 Psalms en zingen Psalmen van diverse componisten uit verschillende culturen. 150 Psalms laten zien hoe de Psalmen een bron van inspiratie zijn geweest voor mensen uit verschillende religies en culturen van over de hele wereld.

150 Psalms
De Psalmen gaan over vluchtende volkeren, onrechtvaardige leiders en machtsmisbruik. 150 Psalms beziet daarom de psalmen – 3000 jaar oud – als spiegel van de maatschappij. 150 Psalms ging van start in September 2017 in Utrecht. In twee dagen klonken in 12 concerten alle 150 Psalmsen van 150 verschillende componisten. Na de première reisde 150 Psalms al naar het Lincoln Centre in New York en het Klara Festival in Brussel. www.150psalms.com Dit programma vindt plaats in het kader van de tweede editie van het Forum on European Culture: Act for Democracy! People have often defined Europe as a Christian continent, rooted in faith. Is the European project primarily a product of Christian values? And how does this relate to today’s secular society? Together with Dutch-Persian writer Kader Abdolah, Belgian writer Stefan Hertmans, Dutch writer and playwright Vonne van der Meer, and Nederlands Kamerkoor [The Netherlands Chamber Choir], we dive into European history in search of its Christian, pan-religious or Enlightenment roots, and explore the role of faith in relation to Europe’s contemporary identity.
Nederlands Kamerkoor will perform a reprise concert of their project 150 Psalms for the Forum with a selection of sacred songs from a variety of composers from different cultures and times. 150 Psalms demonstrates how the Psalms have been a source of inspiration for people from different religions and cultures around the world.

150 Psalms
“Out of the depths I cry to you!” For nearly 3,000 years, humans have reached out to the divine through the Psalms, the Hebrew Bible’s book of hymns revealing the gratitude, fear, and longing of the human heart. The project 150 Psalms, initiated by Nederlands Kamerkoor, regards the Psalms as a mirror of society: great themes that are still relevant today. In 2017, 150 Psalms had its premiere in The Netherlands. In 2 days 4 world-renowned choirs performed all 150 Psalms by 150 composers, representing 1000 years of choral music. After its premiere the project traveled to the Lincoln Centre in New York City and the Klara Festival in Brussels. www.150psalms.com
