We’re very excited to announce the 1st edition of the FOSS XR Conference, a new yearly gathering aimed at bringing the community together and giving a podium to the future of XR. Whether it’s users, developers, engineers, businesses, hackers or hobbyists, anyone with an interest in Open Source XR can attend, share knowledge and code.
This conference is for everyone interested in VR/AR/MR and Free software. With many projects like Monado, OpenHMD, libsurvive, relativ and others working on freely available drivers and hardware, FOSS applications and software working on free driver and api integration, universities and commercial companies embracing the power of Open Source, the FOSS XR Conference is there to bring the community together and give a podium to the future of XR.
Taking place on 26 October in parallel with the Blender Conference (a long running conference in Amsterdam held by the Blender Foundation, previously at The Balie), FOSS XR will have presentations throughout the day, a small dedicated hackerspace for meeting new people working on projects and more. include everything from open source driver development, to the use of open source in XR applications, reverse engineering and showcases.
This event is hosted by Collabora, who has been quite active in the XR domain, with Monado and xrdesktop being prime examples of what Open Source XR can accomplish through collaboration and commercial support. With this conference, Collabora aims to get the community and industry together to collaboratively expand the knowledge and opportunities within Open Source XR, and work on growing the longevity of this exciting platform!
