The journalism landscape in Europe is rapidly changing. Global digital forces like Cambridge Analytica and Facebook are spreading faster than humans can fact-check. Unprecedented verbal attacks on the media are a recurrent part of political rhetoric. Three European journalists were brutally murdered within the space of barely two years. How can citizens make well-informed political decisions based on information provided by journalists under pressure?

In the run-up to the European elections, editorial director of Le Monde Sylvie Kauffmann and editor in chief of The New Times Yevgenia Albats discuss the biggest challenges for journalists and the state of journalism in Europe. Denis Staunton, London editor of the Irish Times will join the evening as well an he gives us the latest insights on reporting on Brexit. His contribution is still tentative because of current developments around Brexit.

Kauffmann and Albats are judges for the European Press Prize and will be joined the next day by Sir Harold Evans, Joergen Ejboel and Alexandra Fodrl-Schmidt to pick the winners for the European Press Prize. The Press Prize provides a unique pan-European view of journalism talent across borders. This year’s shortlist will be published on March 26th.
