Hoe denken diverse kunstenaars – schrijvers, choreografen, theatermakers en beeldende kunstenaars – met verschillende achtergronden over de politieke zeggingskracht en waarde van kunst en over hun eigen positie als (geëngageerde) kunstenaar? Nu kunstenaars steeds meer onder druk komen te staan vanwege de aan populariteit winnende oproep van de BDS-beweging (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) tot een culturele boycot van Israël, is het belangrijker dan ooit om de complexe politieke positie van kunstenaars van alle kanten te belichten. Daarom brengen De Balie, Dancing on the Edge, en Een Ander Joods Geluid 30 kunstenaars en cultuurmakers uit Israël, Palestina, Nederland en Vlaanderen samen om een debat te starten over de ingewikkelde relatie tussen individuele kunstenaars, de kunstsector, de politiek en het publiek. Dit debat wordt gemodereerd door Naeeda Aurangzeb. Van 29 april t/m 1 mei komen 30 kunstenaars uit Israël, Palestina, Nederland en Vlaanderen samen in De Balie voor What’s Art Got to Do With it?, een driedaagse culturele conferentie met debatten, film, dans, theater en literatuur – over kunst in de context van het Israël/Palestina-conflict, en de complexe relatie tussen de kunstsector, de overheid, en het publiek. Een breed debat over kunst waarin de kunst zélf een belangrijke rol speelt. What’s Art Got to Do With It? wordt georganiseerd door De Balie, Dancing on the Edge en Een Ander Joods Geluid. Nowadays artists experience more and more pressure as a result of the rising popularity of the BDS movements’ call (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) for a cultural boycott of Israel. Therefore, it is more important than ever to review the complex political and economic positions of artists from different perspectives. De Balie, Dancing on the Edge, and Another Jewish Voice bring together 30 artists from Israel, Palestine, the Netherland and Flanders to start a debate on the ambiguous relation between individual artists, the art scene, politics, and the public. From April 29th until May 1st 30 artists from Israel, Palestine, the Netherlands, and Flanders come together in De Balie for What’s Art Got to Do with It?, a three-day cultural conference – with discussions, film, dance, theatre, and literature – about art in the context of the conflict, and the complex relations between (the) art (scene), government, and public.
