To conclude the three-day conference What’s Art Got to Do with It?, some of the most complex and intriguing issues of the whole conference, will be shared with the public. This final program is a co-creation of about 30 artists from Israel, Palestine, the Netherlands and Flanders, who are especially assembled for What’s Art Got to Do with It? The artists with various disciplinary backgrounds -theatre, dance, and visual art- will discuss the following questions with the audience: – What is the relation between the engaged or critical artist and the political-economic system in which he or she operates?
– What is the value and power of art in a heavily politicized context such as Israel/Palestine?
– What is the value in countries such as the Netherlands and Flanders, where there is debate about the intrinsic value of art and art seems to be primarily legitimized on the premise of its economic value? What is then the role of the public as art consumer?
– Does the public have the power to actually influence political policy decisions, for example through a cultural boycott of Israel? About What's Art Got to Do With It?
From April 29th until May 1st 30 artists from Israel, Palestine, the Netherlands, and Flanders come together in De Balie for What’s Art Got to Do with It?, a three-day cultural conference – with discussions, film, dance, theatre, and literature – about art in the context of the conflict, and the complex relations between (the) art (scene), government, and public. An in-depth debate about art in which art itself plays a major role. What’s Art Got to Do with It? is organized by De Balie, Dancing on the Edge, and A Different Jewish Voice. De voertaal van dit programma is Engels. Ter afsluiting van de driedaagse conferentie What’s Art Got to Do With It? worden de belangrijkste vraagstukken van de conferentie aan het publiek voorgelegd. Het slotprogramma wordt gemaakt in co-creatie met de meer dan 30 kunstenaars uit Israël, Palestina, Nederland en Vlaanderen die speciaal voor de culturele conferentie bijeen zijn gebracht.
