The life career of Václav Havel (1936-2011), a persecuted playwright and human rights defender in the Czech Republic. Even though he was subjected to the implacable power of the Soviet Union, he became president of the country in the late 1980s.
Before the screening of Havel, director of Eastern Neighbours Film Festival Rada Sesic will introduce the film. Afterwards, we’ll discuss the life and work of Václav Havel with Professor of Political Science Petr Kopecky.

Prof. dr. Petr Kopecký is Professor of Political Science and co-editor of the journal ‘East European Politics‘. He studied Economics at the University of Economics in Prague and Political Science at the University of Manchester. He received his PhD from Leiden University.
Rada Sesic (Croatia) is the director of Eastern Neighbours Film Festival and a filmcritic & filmmaker. She is specialized in South Asian and Eastern European cinema.
