Nikita Kravtsov will create a new work inspired by his piece What if…?, which was previously showcased during the Venice Art Biennale. Over the course of four days in De Balie’s Pleinzaal, Kravtsov will create this work live, exploring themes of identity, transformation, and the shifting notion of belonging in a world marked by conflict.
Using a monotone marker drawing process, Kravtsov reflects on how the concept of being a ‘foreigner’ can be experienced by anyone in times of uncertainty. The durational nature of the piece, with each stroke slowly fading, symbolizes the impermanence of both individuals and the spaces they inhabit. This evolving artwork challenges viewers to reflect on the fragility of identity and place, while questioning how art can offer resistance and a vision for the future.
About the artist
Nikita Kravtsov (1982) is a Ukrainian artist whose work examines themes of identity, displacement, and conflict. Known for his durational drawing and installation pieces, Kravtsov’s work often reflects the fragility of the human experience. His art has been shown internationally, including at the Venice Art Biennale, where he gained recognition for his exploration of socio-political issues.
