Lawyer and feminist Pastora Filigrana will focus on the image of the gypsy women in the Carmen story and speak about Romani feminism.
Throughout history gypsy women have been faced with dominant stereotypical cultural expressions of themselves and anti-gypsy laws. The story of Carmen is a famous example of that discourse. Lawyer Pastora Filigrana will delve in to this history, but also speak about the current Romani feminism that tries to subvert the race and gender stereotypes around which the image of the Gypsy woman is built.
As part of this programme we screen the film Carmen Troubles (2022) in our film hall. You can buy a combi ticket to visit both the talk and the film.
